Value-based Engineering Workshop with the City of Vienna

We are delighted to share the completion of the recent Value-based Engineering (VBE) workshop held in collaboration with the City of Vienna. This workshop was an important step in bringing the ISO/IEC/IEEE 24748-7000 standard (also known as IEEE 7000) into practice and supports Vienna's Digital Agenda 2030, which aims to promote ethical and sustainable digital transformation.

Focus on the "Mein Wien" Platform

The workshop focused on the Mein Wien platform, an essential part of the City of Vienna’s digital services. Through the VBE methodology, participants analyzed how ethical considerations and stakeholder values can be integrated into the design of this platform to enhance its functionality while promoting fairness, transparency, and inclusivity.
The workshop allowed city departments to reflect on the ethical dimensions of the platform and examine how technical systems can support the city's long-term digital vision.

VBE as Part of the Digital Agenda 2030

The City of Vienna's Digital Agenda 2030 places a strong emphasis on responsible and ethical digital transformation and will specifically feature VBE and IEEE 7000 to achieve this goal (read the section 48 here, German language). Through the VBE methodology, the workshop demonstrated how value-driven system design can contribute to achieving the goals of the agenda, ensuring that future technologies are aligned with social and ethical standards.

A Special Thanks to Our Coaches

We are especially grateful to our coaches, Mario Tokarz and Soner Bargu, who played a central role in guiding the workshop. Their expertise ensured that participants gained a deep understanding of how to apply the VBE methodology in real-world contexts.

With this workshop, the City of Vienna continues to lead by example, integrating ethical considerations into its digital transformation strategy and setting a standard for other cities to follow.
